Arm Lift

Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Serving Manchester, Nashua, and Nearby Areas of New Hampshire

Toned, muscular arms are often a sign of health, vitality and attractiveness. Unfortunately, exercise alone often isn't enough to achieve your desired arm appearance. In these situations, an arm lift may be the perfect solution.

An arm lift is a body contouring procedure that provides a firmer, more toned upper arm appearance. It is an excellent way to eliminate sagging skin in the arm region, and it's commonly performed on patients who have achieved significant weight loss.

You can receive individualized treatment recommendations and find out whether an arm lift is right for you by speaking with Dr. Robert Feins in person. Please call 603-647-4430 today to schedule your consultation. We serve patients in Manchester, Nashua and the surrounding areas of New Hampshire.

Am I a Candidate for an Arm Lift?

Manchester arm liftArm lift candidates should be in good overall health, at or near their ideal body weight and experience some degree of loose, hanging skin in the upper arms. This sagging is often caused by:

  • Weight loss
  • Effects of gravity
  • Aging
  • Genetics

It's even common for people who work out regularly to experience sagging skin in their upper arms as they get older. An arm lift can provide an effective complement to your workout regimen.

In addition, many arm lift candidates have undergone massive weight loss. It's common to have excess fat and drooping arm skin after losing a lot of weight. For this reason, an arm lift is commonly performed as part of post-bariatric plastic surgery, allowing you to put the finishing touches on your weight loss efforts and look your very best.

If you're a smoker, you must be willing to quit prior to surgery and throughout the recovery period since smoking can adversely impact your healing and results.

Your Arm Lift Procedure

Your arm lift procedure will be customized to address your unique needs and goals. During your procedure, Dr. Feins will make an incision on the inside of your arm. Depending on the extensiveness of your procedure, the incision may be solely in the armpit or it may run down to the elbow. Excess fat is removed via liposuction and the remaining skin is tightened to create a smooth, toned arm contour.

In some instances, Dr. Fein may be able to perform your arm lift procedure using liposuction alone. This is a less invasive procedure and is most effective if you have good skin elasticity and only a minimal amount of fat to remove.

Recovery after an Arm Lift

Nashua arm liftYou'll experience some bruising, swelling and mild discomfort immediately following arm lift surgery. Your swelling will gradually subside as you heal and should be gone within 2 weeks. You can improve your comfort and help reduce swelling by keeping your arm elevated with pillows.

Your incision will be covered with a special surgical dressing, and Dr. Feins may have you wear a compression garment to expedite the healing process. You can typically shower a week after surgery, and you should be able to return to work in 2-3 weeks. You'll need to refrain from strenuous exercise, including heavy lifting, for 4-6 weeks. Dr. Feins will closely monitor your recovery and let you know when you can resume working out.

You will see some initial results shortly after surgery. However, it may take several months before your final results are apparent. At this point, you'll enjoy a more toned, sculpted upper arm appearance. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle, your results should last for a very long time.
