What Is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is a plastic surgery procedure that rejuvenates the appearance of the neck and jaw line. A neck lift can:

  • Alter the throat and neck area
  • Remove the vertical bands responsible for “turkey neck”
  • Reduce the appearance of jowls in the chin area
  • Lift the area of fatty deposits and sagging skin beneath the chin

Neck lift procedures can vary based on the unique needs of the patient. Dr. Feins will assess your situation and goals and offer a recommendation that is tailored just for you.

How Is a Neck Lift Procedure Performed?

In a neck lift, excess skin is removed from the neck area and the muscles under the chin may be tightened for a more streamlined profile. Liposuction may be used to reduce deposits of stubborn fatty tissue. Neck muscles can be tightened to eliminate the “turkey neck” effect and other unappealing bands of sagging skin.

The procedure is performed at the AAAHC-accredited Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center, and takes usually takes between one and three hours to perform. The incision for neck lift surgery is typically made under the chin.

How Long Is Neck Lift Recovery?

The neck lift recovery period for most patients is about one to two weeks following the surgery. Dr. Feins will apply a compression bandage immediately after your procedure.

You may experience some swelling and tenderness, as well as a sensation of tightness or numbness in the skin. We recommend keeping your head and neck elevated for the first 10 days following your surgery. Wearing a button-down shirt can help avoid irritation during the first weeks of recovery.

How Much Does Neck Lift Surgery Cost?

Since no two neck lift surgeries are exactly the same, the cost of the procedure can vary. In some situations, a neck lift is combined with other procedures that can also impact the extent of surgical work, techniques required and ultimate cost.

The best way to gain a clear idea of what you can expect to pay for a neck lift is to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Feins. During your initial meeting, Dr. Feins will complete a thorough examination, discuss your needs, answer your questions and provide you with options to achieve your cosmetic goals. He will also explain the details of your recovery process and cost estimates.
